Field of application
Pulley with integrated connector for tyroleans. TRAC pulley for
standard tyroleans. TRACPLUS pulley for long tyroleans.
This equipment is personal protective equipment.
This product must not be loaded beyond its strength rating, nor be
used for any purpose other than that for which it is designed.
Warning, the installation and use of a tyrolean traverse requires the
abilities of an expert. A cable tyrolean creates much greater stress on
anchor points than a rope tyrolean.
WARNING
Activities involving the use of this equipment are inherently
dangerous.
You are responsible for your own actions and decisions.
Before using this equipment, you must:
- Read and understand all instructions for use.
- Get specific training in its proper use.
- Become acquainted with its capabilities and limitations.
- Understand and accept the risks involved.
Failure to heed any of these warnings may result in severe
injury or death.
Responsibility
WARNING, specific training in the activities defined in the field of
application is essential before use.
This product must only be used by competent and responsible
persons, or those placed under the direct and visual control of a
competent and responsible person.
Gaining an adequate apprenticeship in appropriate techniques and
methods of protection is your own responsibility.
You personally assume all risks and responsibilities for all damage,
injury or death which may occur during or following incorrect use of
our products in any manner whatsoever. If you are not able, or not
in a position to assume this responsibility or to take this risk, do not
use this equipment.

(5)Positioning cover, (6)Carabiner support area.
TRAC pulley:single row ball bearings.
TRAC PLUS pulley:double row ball bearings.
VERTIGOWL carabiner
(7)Frame, (8)Gate, (9)Hinge, (10)Locking sleeve, (11)Keylock,
(12)Keylock slot.
Principal materials:aluminum alloy (side plates and frame of
carabiner), stainless steel (sheaves), nylon (cover and locking
sleeve).
Inspection, points to verify
Before each use
On the pulley, verify that the sheaves turn freely. Verify the condition
of the fixed side plates, sheave grooves and axles.
On the carabiner, verify that the frame, gate, hinge, and locking
sleeve are free of any cracks, deformation, or corrosion. Open the
gate and verify that it closes and locks itself automatically when
released. The Keylock slot must not be blocked by any foreign matter
(dirt, pebble,etc.).
Consult the details of the inspection procedure to be carried out for
each item of PPE on the Web at www.petzl.com/ppe
During each use
It is important to regularly inspect the condition of the product.
Make sure that all pieces of equipment are properly connected and
positioned with respect to each other.
Contact PETZL if there is any doubt about the condition of this
product.
Compatibility
Verify that this product is compatible with the other elements of the
system in your application (compatible= good functional interaction).
Usage on cable, or rope, from 9 to 13mm in diameter.
Attaching a lanyard to the pulley
A- Remove the positioning cover with a screwdriver.
B- Remove the VERTIGOWL carabiner from the pulley. Attach a
lanyard to the VERTIGOWL.
Take care to make the carabiner directional, so that it is loaded
correctly (on the major axis), using a STRING, for example.
C- Re-attach the carabiner to the pulley.
D- Replace the positioning cover. Make sure that the cover is
correctly attached.
Installation on the tyrolean
A- Clip the carabiner-pulley unit onto the tyrolean cable or rope.
Warning :Make sure that the tyrolean cable or rope does not get
jammed between the carabiner and the side plate (more likely with
a rope).
B- Clip your lanyards’ other carabiners onto the cable or rope and
position them on the carabiner support areas.
Before starting, verify that the carabiner gate is closed and locked.
Before putting your weight onto the pulley, make sure it is correctly
positioned with the rope or cable in the grooves of both sheaves. Put
your weight onto the tyrolean, without jumping, to avoid any risk of
poor positioning of the pulley and carabiner on the tyrolean.
Attention, the carabiner must always be used with the gate closed
and locked. Nothing must obstruct the connector. Any constraint or
external pressure will reduce its strength.
Take care to avoid getting fingers or hair caught between the pulley
and the cable.
Warning, when the TRAC/TRACPLUS pulley is not in use, attach it to
an equipment loop on the harness. A pulley hanging on the end of a
lanyard can be dangerous (e.g. risk of hitting the eyes).
Tyrolean precautions
- When installing your tyrolean, be sure to do some preliminary
adjustment tests (tyrolean tension, slope,etc.) with different weights,
to verify the compatibility of the pulley with your installation.
- Warning, the TRAC pulley’s ball bearings make it capable of
reaching higher speeds than those of the TRACPLUS. A tyrolean
designed to work with the TRACPLUS must not be used with a TRAC
(or TANDEMSPEED).
- We recommend a maximum speed of 20m/s. Warning, a collision
with an obstacle can result in serious injuries.
- At the end of the tyrolean, be sure to install an absorption system
for the safety of the user, and to avoid damaging your pulley.
Maintenance
- For intensive use (e.g. in an AdventurePark), be sure to regularly
lubricate the moving parts of the carabiner (hinge, spring and locking
sleeve) with a drop of oil.
Do not use penetrating oil. Do not lubricate the pulley’s sealed
bearings as this can have the harmful effect of retaining dust and dirt.
- The maximum acceptable wear on the carabiner frame is 2mm,
where it contacts the pulley. Retire any carabiner with excessive wear.

Destroy retired equipment to prevent further use.
Product inspection
In addition to the inspection before each use, an in-depth inspection
must be carried out by a competent inspector. The frequency of the
in-depth inspection must be governed by applicable legislation, and
the type and the intensity of use. Petzl recommends an inspection at
least once every 12months.
